James Hotel Commissions

Sometimes commissions are a little fun to do, these ones in particular as I just kept thinking of the jungle as I painted. I'm just finishing a set of 4 that I'm doing for a new hotel in Miami that let me reference some photos I took in New Guinea. Here is one of coconut palm and a banana leaf / papaya leaves, frangipani, and the bougainvillea. Acrylic, each 4 x 4 ft.

Wapu long Diwai

I hiked to Sai creek where I played as a kid and sourced the clay (wapu) from the banks. It is one of the few creeks for days around that has pure white, reds and yellow clay. Then I found some trees (diwais) and an iron-wood (kwila) post around the village to embellish.

sketches in Wabualu

I did some sketching while in the Wabualu Village this summer - these are all reactions to the landscape, flowers, or insects (or combinations). I hope to do massive versions of these on walls...if you have an open wall, let me know ;) bethany.kalk@gmail.com
